    Mac; 7z
I got a MacBook a little while ago. Although I've been using Linux exclusively for several years now, adjusting to Mac OS X has been extremely easy. I really never thought I'd end up as a Mac user, but it has a nice user interface and things are generally easy to get done on it. It comes with all of the command-line utilities I'm used to, and there is a great software installation tool available called Macports (which is similar to apt). It was definitely a great buy -- I'll probably be sticking with Apple from now on.

It turns out that the 7z archive format is great. I've been using it on just about everything, in place of bz2 and gzip. It's faster than bzip, yet compresses with a better ratio. However, gzip is still faster, and depending on what type of file it is gzip might give better results. Regardless, 7z is a nice format and I give it my approval.

    Sun NetBeans IDE 6.5
I installed NetBeans 6.5 the other day, and so far I am very satisfied. Just when I was beginning to think that Linux simply does not have a C++ IDE as nice as Visual Studio, NetBeans proved this to be quite the contrary.

Yes, C/C++. Although most people probably think of NetBeans as a development environment for Java, it also handles C/C++ beautifully.

The code-completion is very fast and intelligent; this alone makes it much better than most other IDEs out there. I also find the interface as a whole to be well designed and quickly accessible. NetBeans features dockable components that can be minimized into the IDE, dragged out as a separate window or integrated on the sides or bottom. It is possible to modify the existing file templates or create your own. Another great feature is the code templates; you simply type a few letters (as defined in your options settings), press tab and the code from the template will be placed in your file. These are, of course, customizable too. Further yet, there is a plug-in system which you can use to extend NetBeans.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. NetBeans is just what I was looking for. I give my thanks to them for creating yet another great app. Sun produced VirtualBox, and I use it as my sole x86 virtualization program. Now I have been blessed with this great IDE as well.

If you're looking for a great Java or C/C++ IDE you can check out NetBeans at netbeans.org. It is licensed under CDDL/GPL and available for free download.

    One of those things...
This article is about one of those things that makes you think "Wow, that's just plain wrong" .....

An incredibly clever business tactic? You bet. About as close as you can get before crossing the line to illegal? Very close. Probably one foot on the other side.

    It's been a while since I posted
I just registered for next semester, my classes aren't too bad. I'm continuing with Chinese and of course software dev. I kind of got ripped off on the business class; I basically never got to take it, and nobody seems to answer e-mails at the college AT ALL. No replies or anything...

i decided to learn to paint. i always wanted to.

    so yesterday i got

a notebook of watercolor canvas paper
    a small set of brushes
one size 12 golden edge brush
two tubes of paint, one of 'indian red' and the other of 'burnt lumber'

    and today i got

    a 10 well palette
a set of 18 tubes of various colors
and four more seperate tubes similar to the type i got yesterday (diff colors though)

bought the origami paper yesterday as well. made a few models.

we ate at an indian restaurant afterwards. i really have no clue of what most of the things i was eating were.

oh yea, and this crazy lady made me give her a ride. i wasnt very happy about that, but its ok. i felt bad for her so dunno.
